Big Second Half Keys Victory over Peru State

Box Score Stats | Video Recap | Highlights | Five Pioneers scored double figures in MNU's 78-68 victory over Peru State on Thursday. The Bobcats started the game on a 9-2 run before the Pioneers responding to take a 13-12 lead at the 14-minute mark. MNU had a 5-point lead with 7 minutes left in the half when Peru went on a 14-4 run to take a 5-point lead into the locker room. Three minutes into the second half, the Bobcats had a 10-point lead and the Pioneer bench was called on to contribute. Lukas Weigel, Brandon Newton, and Justin Collard provided the needed spark and MNU started to close the gap. A fast break dunk from Luke Thomas tied the game at 53 with 11 minutes left, and the Pioneers never trailed again. After the bench spark, the Pioneers outscored Peru State 44-24 and won by 10.

Conner Langrehr led the Pioneers with 14 points on 6-9 shooting. Brandon Newton had 12 points and 7 rebounds off the bench. Rustin Dowd hit all 3 of his 3-point attempts and ended up with 11 points and 9 assists. Jacob French added 11 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 blocks. Lukas Weigel had 10 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 blocks off the bench. Luke Thomas had 8 points and 10 rebounds. And Justin Collard had 8 points and 8 assists off the bench.

The Pioneers are 16-6 (8-2 HAAC). The next game is Saturday at Graceland (5-16, 2-8) at 4:00.
