Pioneers Move to 4-0

WSOC vs. Oklahoma Wesleyan | W 2-0 | Stats

It was a tale of two halves for the Pioneers on Saturday. In the first half, Oklahoma Wesleyan came out the stronger of the two squads and forced the Pioneers to make several defensive stops and chase the game. However, as the game went on, the Pioneers started to step up defensively and refused to give anything up.

"We came out flat," said Skelly Kellar. "We were a bit lucky not to get scored on but the defense did a great job of covering for each other. As the game went on, we did a good job of building into the game and getting settled. I thought that all of the subs that came into the game did a great job of bringing some much needed energy and hardwork."

In the second half, the Pioneers came out firing as they started connecting passes and creating scoring opportunities. MNU finally broke through in the 72nd minute off of a beautiful freekick by Ashley Peter. The Pioneers kept pressing OK Wesleyan all over the field making it difficult for them to get out of their own end. Kara Collins capped off the scoring off of an assist by Kara Quinn from a corner by stabbing the ball with her right foot into the roof of the net. The Pioneers never stopped attacking and created a couple more opportunities to score but were unable to find another. The shutout was shared by Breanna Oddo and Becca Skillman.

“In the second half, that was the most fire we have played with," said Kellar. "I was very impressed with some of our passing combinations as well as immediate pressure on the ball when we lost it. We need to make sure we come out with that same energy and intensity against Oklahoma City next week."
