Stats
There is a first time for everything. Going into the game
on Wednesday, Park University held a 5-0-0 record against the Pioneers. MNU finally cracked the win column after a 3-0 win over the Pirates.
"This was a challenging game for us as the score was not indicative of the game," said Coach
Skelly Kellar. "They have some extremely quality players that we knew could hurt us if we let them get away from us.
Tonight we showed some resolve and played some good in-your-face soccer. I am very proud of the girls for their defensive effort and willingness to play for each other."
Within one minute of kickoff, both teams had a chance on each other's goal. Park had a little more of the ball but MNU's defense hung tough and were able to create several chances in behind the pressing Park's defense.
Whitney Peavler got the Neer's off and running in the 9th minute off an assist from
Misty Olsen. The Pioneers managed to get into half up 1-0. Right after the halftime kickoff, the Pioneers were able to score off a second chance off a corner when
Kalyn Pfaff was able to track down a loose ball and play
Misty Olsen who hit a one-time just under the bar and just out of reach of the opposing goalkeeper. Park then took possession of the ball and controlled play in MNU's half. But the MNU defense held its ground as keeper
Becca Skillman was only forced to make 1 save in the second half (5 saves overall).
Kara Collins finished off the scoring on an assist by
Becca Nigh with 6 minutes remaining in the game.
The Pioneers are 3-0-0. The next game is
Saturday at noon against Oklahoma Wesleyan (2-1-1) at Pioneer Soccer Field.
