Box Score Stats | The Pioneers used a blocked punt to score quickly and MNU led throughout in a 38-9 victory over Avila on Saturday. Mike McJunkins blocked a punt on Avila's opening drive to set up MNU in the red zone. Two plays later,
Sean Ransburg's 18-yard keeper put the Pioneers up 7-0. On the next MNU drive,
Michael Brewer's 45-yard field goal put the Pioneers up 10-0.
Avila got on the board after a 13-play 70-yard drive which ended with a 25-yard field goal, but the Pioneers answered quickly as Ransburg found
LaDon Hudson twice for touchdowns - one for 9 yards and the other for 28 yards - to put MNU up 23-3 at halftime. To open the 2nd half,
Dantren Anderson's long kickoff return set up the Pioneers near midfield, and
Greg Gates started the drive with a 25-yard rush to get even closer. Ransburg found Hudson once again for a 31-yard touchdown, and the the rout was on.
Late in the 3rd quarter, Avila turned an interception into a touchdown, but the PAT snap was botched and
Dantren Anderson scooped it and ran 90 yards for 2 points to quell any momentum Avila may have gained.
Jeremiah Clemon capped off MNU's ensuing drive with a 10-yard touchdown run, and the Pioneers cruised to a 38-9 victory.
Ransburg was 11-26 for 167 yards and 3 touchdowns. He also rushed 6 times for 105 yards (17.5 ypc).
Greg Gates had 17 carries for 103 yards.
Brett Houchen caught 5 passes for 51 yards. And
LaDon Hudson caught 5 balls for 80 yards and 3 touchdowns.
JD Wood led the way with 9 tackles and a forced fumble.
Joey Oxley added 7 tackles and a sack. And Mike McJunkins added 7 tackles, a sack, 2 forced fumbles, and a blocked punt.
The Pioneers are 2-1 (2-1 HAAC). The next game is Saturday at ODAC vs. Baker (4-1, 3-1) at 6:00 PM.
