Thursday, the Pioneers hosted #17 Kansas Wesleyan. Early in the match, MNU came out slow and lethargic giving up two goals in the first twenty minutes.
“I am a bit concerned about our lack of concentration early in games right now,” said Coach Kellar. “We seem to be giving up some silly early goals. We have to learn to be a little more patient in our defending and stop giving up set pieces around our own goalbox.”
However, the second half was a different story as the Pioneers engineered an energetic second half which saw
Kinsey Chavez score her first goal of the year by following up her own shot which came off the post. The Pioneers were close a couple of other times but were unable to find the equalizer.
“We are learning and growing as a team right now. We need to learn to keep going even though we are tired and to push through and find a way. We have lost three in a row but two of them were to Top 20 teams and John Brown was a very hard working and good team as well. I was proud of the way we played in spurts. We just need to understand what it means to play at that level for an entire match. We just need to press on and see if we can get a result against McPherson on
Saturday.”
