MNU Beats Morningside

Stats | The MNU Men's Soccer team kept their unbeaten record intact this afternoon with a 4-1 win over Morningside College (IA). On a beautiful afternoon at Pioneer Field the team came out very focused and intent on adding another win to this season's tally.
 
Just 9 minutes into the game, Kalev Saarna scored off of a long throw in by Eddie Morales that was flicked across the box by Rodrigo Rivas. With the score 1-0, the Pioneers did not waste anytime adding to the lead. Just 1:13 later, MNU again scored off of a long throw in. This time Tyler Hageman threw in a ball that Morales one-touched across the box for Trent Remmich to head in. In the 20th minute, Remmich would fail on a penalty kick to extend his team-leading goal total for the season but just 4 minutes later Morales would score an unassisted goal to make the score 3-0 headed into the half.
 
The second half was much different. Morningside came out ready to play and for the first 10 minutes they had the better of the play. In that time they scored a screamer of a goal to make the game interesting at 3-1. MNU responded well by getting control of the possession in the match. In the 73rd minute they were rewarded when Remmich recorded his brace. An unassisted goal that he smashed into the net after a cross that was pinballed around the penalty area. This was all of the scoring for the game as MNU was able to see off the remaining minutes of the match.
 
For the game MNU outshot Morningside 34-5. Morningside's goalkeepers were credited with 8 saves. MNU's Chris Eriksson was credited with 2 saves as he collected the win. Morningside falls to 2-4 on the season. MNU improves their season record to 4-0-3. The next game is at Pioneer Field on Tuesday at 4:00pm against John Brown University (3-1-1).
