MNU Sweeps Culver; Women Claim Title!

| Box Score 2 Box and Play by Play | The MNU women's basketball team won their first outright conference title in program history on Saturday. Going into the game, the Pioneers were tied with Avila for the top spot in the HAAC. MNU defeated Culver-Stockton 67-57 while Benedictine defeated Avila, and the Pioneers claimed the title. It wasn't an easy victory for the Pioneers as they trailed by 8 points in the first half. Culver trailed by 7 before going on a 22-6 run to take their biggest lead of the game. The Pioneers chipped away in the second half but still trailed by 3 with 9 minutes remaining. A 10-2 Pioneer run over the next 5 minutes, capped by a Janeè Garza 3-pointer, put the Pioneers up by 5 and put them in control. Culver got it within 2 with 90 seconds left, but the Wildcats wouldn't score again. Free throws by Rachel Boan and Kiley Herold extended the lead back to 10, and the Pioneers were conference champs.

Daria Sprew led the offense with 15 points and 7 rebounds. Rachel Boan added 12 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals. Kiley Herold had 10 points and 7 rebounds. And CJ Wesemann had 10 points off the bench.

The Pioneers finish the regular season at 22-8 (15-3 HAAC). The next game is the first round of the conference tournament on Friday, March 1 at home vs. Missouri Valley (10-18, 6-12) at 7:00 PM. View bracket.

Box and Play by Play | In the men's game, the Pioneers jumped out to an 11-2 lead and Culver was never able to get closer than 6 points from the lead as MNU closed out the regular season. Every Pioneer starter reached double figures as MNU rolled. The lead got as high as 20 until the final minutes when Culver closed the game with an 11-3 run to account for the 86-78 final.

Rustin Dowd led the offense with 20 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 steals. Nick Syrie added a season-high 16 points while pulling down 6 rebounds, handing out 7 assists, and recording 4 steals. Luke Thomas and Conner Langrehr had 13 apiece. And Jacob French added 12 points and 8 rebounds.

The Pioneers finish the regular season at 22-8 (16-2 HAAC). The next game is the first round of the conference tournament on Thursday, February 29 at home vs. Missouri Valley (10-20, 5-13) at 7:00 PM. View bracket.
