MNU Sweeps Baker, Lamar to 599

| Box Score 2 The Pioneers hosted Baker University and came away with 2 victories on Thursday. In the women's game, MNU struggled to find rhythm in the first half and trailed by 9 with 6 minutes remaining in the half. But the Pioneers closed the half with a furious 20-2 run to reverse the deficit and head to the locker room up by 9. In the second half the Pioneers kept up the pressure and built the lead to as many as 27 as they cruised to a 79-56 victory.

Daria Sprew led all scorers with 16 points. She also grabbed 7 rebounds. Shadèqua Longus hit 3-4 from beyond the arc and finished with 15 points off the bench. Kiley Herold had 8 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists. And Kristie Tiegreen had 7 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists.

The Pioneers are 12-6 (5-1 HAAC). The next game is Saturday at home vs. Missouri Valley (7-8, 3-2) at 2:00 PM.

In the men's game, Coach Lamar earned his 599th career victory as the Pioneers dominated the Wildcats in a 79-68 victory. MNU started quickly and jumped out to a 12-3 lead in the opening minutes. The fast start was matched by a great finish as the Pioneers went to the locker room with a 16-point lead. In the second half, the Pioneers matched every Baker run and maintained a double digit lead until the final minute when the Wildcats got within 8. But MNU hit enough free throws to keep Baker at bay and won by 11.

Rustin Dowd had 18 points and 4 rebounds. Nick Syrie had 14 points, a game-high 5 assists, and 3 steals. Luke Thomas had 11 points, a game-high 15 rebounds, adn 4 assists. Jacob French had 10 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 steals. And Lukas Weigel had 10 points and 5 rebounds.

The Pioneers are 11-7 (5-1 HAAC). The next game is Coach Lamar's first crack at 600 wins; Saturday at home vs. Missouri Valley (7-9, 3-2) at 4:00 PM.
