Pioneers Lose in Double Overtime

MNU traveled to Bellevue (NE) for a non-conference game on Tuesday. The game started out very even with both teams trying to establish a rhythm in the game. "It was a real midfield battle in the first 22 minutes," said Coach Orton. "Then in the 23rd minute the game changed.” MNU was given a red card and had to play the rest of the game with 10 players. Orton stated, "It was a tough blow because we were playing well until the card changed the game." MNU battled and held Bellevue for the next 67 minutes and went into overtime. In overtime MNU created several good chances to win the game but were unlucky not to score. Orton commented, “The team played so well and with so much discipline today. I was so proud. After the red card, we changed our strategy and the team played it perfectly. The team made a strong push to win the game in overtime but just fell short on several near misses.”

Finally, in the 103rd minute of the game the ball was crossed and Bellevue scored the winning goal to give the Bruins the 1-0 victory in the second overtime. Coach Orton stated, “It was another heartbreaking loss. We showed so much character today, and I know it will only make us better as a team."

With the loss MNU moves to 2-2-1 on the season. MNU will host Midland University on September 16th and Oklahoma Baptist on September 17th at 3pm and 1pm.
