Pioneers Sweep Culver-Stockton

CJ Wesemann's late 3-pointer was the key play in the women's 72-71 victory over Culver-Stockton on Saturday. The Pioneers built a 9-point lead late in the first half and seemed poised to run away with the game. But Culver turned things around with a 22-6 run to take a 7-point lead. MNU answered with an 8-1 run to tie the score, and the game remained close to the final minute. Two Culver free throws gave the Wildcats a 3-point lead with 36 seconds left, but Sophia Stockton hit 2 free throws to get the Pioneers within 1. After MNU fouled on the inbounds, Culver made just one of two free throws, setting up Wesemann's heroics. The freshman nailed a deep contested 3-pointer with 8 seconds remaining, and the defense held on for the 1-point victory.

Sophia Stockton had a career-high 22 points. CJ Wesemann had 17 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists off the bench. Rachel Boan had 12 points and 3 assists. And Kassidy Ritchel pulled down a game-high 9 rebounds off the bench.

The Pioneers finish the regular season at 12-18 (10-10 HAAC). MNU will be the 6-seed in the conference tournament and will play at 3-seed Avila on Wednesday, March 2nd at 7:00 PM.
