Pioneers Defeat Vikings in Overtime

The Pioneers used clutch free throws to defeat Missouri Valley 68-65 in overtime on Saturday. The game was close throughout as neither team took more than a 6-point lead. In the final 10 minutes of the game, neither team led by more than 3 points. With 7 seconds remaining and the Pioneers down by 2, Kassidy Ritchel was fouled and went to the line for a one-and-one. She missed the first free throw but managed to collect the rebound and was fouled again. With another chance, she nailed both shots to tie the game and send it into overtime.

In the overtime period, the Pioneers did not record a field goal. But free throws from Ritchel, Navia Palu, Rachel Boan, Janee' Garza, and CJ Wesemann accounted for 10 points while the defense held firm. Garza sealed the game with free throws to give the Pioneers a 5-point lead with 5 seconds left, and the Pioneers improved their conference record to 7-8.
