Box Score 2 The Pioneer basketball teams travelled to Fayette and came away with 2 victories vs. Central Methodist on Saturday. In the women's game, MNU trailed in the opening minutes until the 12 minute mark when Janee' Garza's 3-pointer put the Pioneers up 15-14. MNU maintained the lead until the first couple minutes of the second half when CMU tied the game. But the Pioneers retook the lead immediately and blew the game open with a 9-0 run with 10 minutes remaining. The Pioneers held a double-digit lead for the rest of the game and won 67-58.
Daria Sprew had a game-high 18 points. She also pulled down 6 rebounds.
Rachel Boan had 10 points and 7 rebounds. Janee' Garza added 8 points and 4 assists. And
CJ Wesemann had 7 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 blocks off the bench.
MNU is 7-6 (2-1 HAAC). The next game is Friday the 16th at home vs. Robert Morris at 7:00 for the
MNU Christmas Classic.
Box and Play by Play
In the men's game, the Pioneers jumped out to a 10-2 lead and had control for most of the game. CMU was able to tie the game at 22 with 6 minutes remaining in the first half, but MNU ended the half with a 19-9 stretch to take a 10-point lead into the locker room. The Pioneers maintained a double digit lead for most of the second half and cruised to an 81-66 victory.
Rustin Dowd led 5 players in double figures with 20 points.
Jacob French and
Luke Thomas had 13 points apiece, and Thomas pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds.
Conner Langrehr added 12 points. And
David Clark had 10 points and 2 blocks off the bench.
The Pioneers are 8-5 (3-0 HAAC). The next game is Friday the 30th vs. Sterling at the Tabor Classic in Hillsboro, KS at 4:00 PM.
