Head Coach
Jon Lewis picked up his first career victory in Tuesday's 57-53 victory over John Brown University. Both teams started slowly and struggled to find rhythm, but the Pioneers finally gave themselves some breathing room with a 7-point cushion near halftime. MNU came out of the locker room with great energy and went on an 11-0 run to open up a 16-point lead. John Brown didn't go quietly, however, and whittled the Pioneer lead to 5 in the final minute. Janee' Garza iced the game from the free throw line, and MNU won their 2011-12 opener.
Rachel Boan led the offense with 13 points.
Kristie Tiegreen came off the bench to score 6 points and grab 7 rebounds. Janee' Garza had 4 assists. And
Kiley Herold had 6 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals, and 2 blocks.
The Pioneers are 1-0. The next game is Friday at 5:30 vs. Rogers State (OK) in Baldwin City on the campus of Baker University.
