In one of the most lopsided soccer games you will see, the MNU Men's team walked away with a 6-1 win over Culver-Stockton on Saturday.
The game started off well for MNU with Rodrigo Rivas scoring off of a Gyer Vierthaler assist in just the 4th minute of play. With Culver content to just sit in and wait for MNU to come at them, the Pioneers obliged by keeping possession of the ball for a majority of the game. MNU had the ball seemingly around 85% of the time. This possession eventually led to another MNU goal with about 16 minutes left in the first half. Trent Remmich scored the first of his three off of an assist by Cam Cundiff to make the score 2-0. And just a few minutes later, Oumar Seck scored a goal that was assisted by Remmich. The boys went into the half with a 3-0 lead.
The second half was much of the same with MNU dominating possession and Culver seeing very little of the ball. Just 12 minutes in, Remmich scored from a Taylor Esparza assist and then just 5 minutes later he took a pass from Seck and neatly placed a shot in the upper 90 to complete his hat trick. With the score now 5-0, MNU were able to make a few substitutions. With about 17 minutes left in the game, Culver-Stockton was able to pull a goal back off of a corner kick. MNU's Daniel Paez finished off the scoring with a beautiful strike from 22 yards out for the first goal of his college career.
The Pioneers now run their season record to 8-4-1, and they move to 1-1 within the conference. The next game features a big match up with Baker University on Wednesday, October 12 at 3:30pm on Pioneer Field. This game will be crucial for MNU as they continue their quest for a conference title.
