Pioneers Sweep MO Valley

Coach Bill Olin picked up career victory #497 as the Pioneers crushed Missouri Valley 85-50 on Saturday. [this wbb game was forfeited later in the season due to playing an ineligible player]
 MNU took an 8-point lead into the locker room at halftime, and came out strong with a 10-2 run to take a 16 point lead. The Pioneers stayed in control for the remainder of the game, and used a late 16-0 run to turn the game into a laugher.

Bethany Rexroth had 21 points, 13 rebounds, and 2 blocks. Hadleigh Meek had 13 points and 4 assists. Bethany Schwab hit 3 threes for 9 points and 4 assists. Beth Keeley filled the stat sheet with 6 points, 7 rebounds, 9 assists, and a steal. And Kristie Tiegreen and Lindsey Sprague each scored 11 off the bench.

The Pioneers are 14-11 (9-6 HAAC). The next game is Monday vs. Central Methodist (9-17, 3-13) at 5:30. Coach Olin will be trying to pick up his 498th career victory.

The men's game was close throughout, with neither team taking more than a 5-point lead in a first half which saw 10 ties. The Pioneers took a 2-point lead at halftime, but the second half was more of the same. MO Valley used a 6-0 run to start the second half to take their biggest lead of the game (4), but MNU reclaimed the lead soon after and the back-and-forth battle continued. With the game tied at 64 with less than 2 minutes remaining, the Pioneers decided the game at the free throw line. Lukas Weigel hit 2 to give MNU the lead. After a Rustin Dowd bucket in the paint, Vince Thompkins found himself at the line with the Pioneers leading by 1. Thompkins hit both clutch free throws, and after a missed 3-pointer by the Vikings, Brenton Bell iced the game with 2 more free throws.

Brenton Bell led all scorers with 23 points. He also had a game-high 7 assists to go with 4 rebounds and 2 steals. Rustin Dowd added 14 points. And Lukas Weigel had 13 points and 9 rebounds off the bench.

The Pioneers are 16-9 (10-5 HAAC). The next game is Monday vs. HAAC-leading and #14 Central Methodist (20-6, 14-2) at 7:30.
