Three Pioneers reached double figures in MNU's 77-67 over Ottawa on Tuesday.
Rustin Dowd continued his dominant start of the season with his third 20-plus point performance in three games, and
Marcus Butler and
Barry Robinson also reached double figures. The Pioneers trailed for most of the first half until a mini run gave them a 2-point lead at the break.
MNU started quickly in the second half when
Rustin Dowd took over. He started the scoring with a jumper from the elbow. On MNU's next possession, Dowd inbounded the ball off an Ottawa defender's back, grabbed his own pass, and hit a tough layup while getting fouled. He made the free throw, stole a pass on the other end, and hit a floater in traffic to give MNU a 9-point lead. Not long after Dowd's personal 7-0 run, Ottawa answered with 3 consecutive 3-pointers to tie the game. But Dowd ended that run with a 3-pointer and the Pioneers never looked back. The lead got as high as 17 and the Pioneers moved to 2-1 on the young season.
Rustin Dowd had 28 points, 4 assists, and 4 steals.
Marcus Butler had 12 points and 6 rebounds.
Barry Robinson had 11 points. And
Andrew Crotty had 10 rebounds and 2 steals.
The Pioneers are 2-1. The next game is Friday the 12th at home vs. Central Bible College at 8:00 in the
Tip-Off Classic.
