Megan Hayes dominated the net in MNU's 3-2 victory over Benedictine in the first round of the HAAC Conference Tournament on Saturday. The Pioneers took a 2-0 lead with consecutive 25-23 victories and seemed poised to advance. But Benedictine answered with a 25-23 victory in the 3rd set, and a 27-25 victory in the 4th, setting up a 5th and deciding set. MNU trailed early but quickly gained control and took the set, winning 15-10 and setting up a 4-seed vs. 1-seed match vs. Evangel on Wednesday.
Hayes led MNU with 12 kills and 15 blocks.
Ashley Fantazia also had 12 kills.
Melissa Anaya had 42 assists. And Molley Brewster (13),
Laura Hamblin (13),
Melissa Anaya (10), and
Becca Valdez (10) had double-digit digs.
The Pioneers are 12-18 (6-4 HAAC). The next game is Wednesday the 10th at Evangel (27-5, 10-0) at 7:00.
