Pioneers Crush Crusaders on Homecoming

Tillman rushes for 103 yards, Redmon hauls in 2 TDs

The #4 Pioneers opened the game with successful onside kick and never let up in a 45-10 thumping of Evangel on Homecoming on Saturay. MNU picked up an early field goal, then forced a 3-and-out and recovered a badly-snapped punt to set up at the 5 yard line. Greg Gates punched it in and the Pioneers were off and running. The lead increased to 24-0 before Evangel finally scored late in the first half, but the second half was more of the same.

MNU increased the lead with the first drive in the second half when Sean Ransburg connected with Juan Redmon for a 16-yard touchdown after an 11-play 61-yard drive. The first pass of the ensuing Evangel drive was picked off by Branden Griffin and returned for a touchdown to give the Pioneers a 38-7 lead. The defense responded again with two more interceptions by Jake Duren on the next two Evangel drives as the Pioneers coasted to victory. An MNU punt-block touchdown and a late Evangel field goal accounted for the 45-10 final, and the Pioneers moved to 8-0.

James Tillman led the offense with 17 carries for 103 yards. Greg Gates carried 9 times for 59 yards and a touchdown. Sean Ransburg was 12-23 for 147 yards and 3 touchdowns. And Juan Redmon caught 4 passes for 76 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Demarco Kemp had 6 tackles, including 2 tackles for loss, a sack, and a pass break-up. Branden Griffin had 5 tackles, including a sack and a pick-6. And Jake Duren had 2 interceptions for 60 yards.

The Pioneers are 8-0. The next game is Saturday the 30th at Central Methodist (2-5) at 6:00 PM.
