Brenton Bell and Rustin Dowd each reached 20 points, and Vince Thompkins added another career high with 18, in MNU's 97-93 overtime victory over Benedictine on Tuesday. The game was tight throughout, with 16 ties and 15 lead changes, but the Pioneers were able to hold off the Ravens and extend a 15-year home winning streak vs. Benedictine.
MNU led by 2 at halftime, and were able to take control of the game with an 8-0 run with 8 minutes remaining. The Ravens responded with a 7-0 run to get back in the game, and the teams battled to a tie in regulation. The overtime period was back and forth as well, but Vince Thompkins was able to hit several key free throws to give MNU the 4-point victory.
Bell had 27 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists. Dowd had 21 points, 4 assists, and 2 steals. Thompkins added 6 rebounds to his career-high 18 points. And Ben Swinger contributed 12 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 assists.
The Pioneers are 12-8 (6-4 HAAC). The next game is Thursday at Avila (8-10, 1-8) at 7:30.
