MNU Women's Soccer Team Starts Season With Victory

The MNU women's soccer team traveled to Oklahoma City and defeated Mid-America Christian University 2-1 on Friday. MACU opened up the scoring within 4 minutes of kickoff. "We started a little slow," said Coach Orton. "When you start slow sometimes you give up an early goal." The Pioneers were able to settle down and had the bulk of possession. MNU leveled the game after 37 minutes of play on a goal by Alyssa Howard. Orton said, "Our possession was outstanding! We had around 15 passes [during the possession] and Rebekah Blankenship supplied the final pass of a beautiful build up to Alyssa Howard to notch the tying goal. It is exactly what we have been working on in practice, keeping the ball and finding the open players."

The game was tied at one at halftime, and MNU responded with the game winner 2 minutes into the second half. Ashton Bergh slotted a ball into Rebecca McAndrew and she hit an amazing shot from the corner of the box to find the upper corner of the net. MNU out-shot MACU 12-2 in the second half to secure the first win of the season. "It was a good win for us today," said Orton. "We played hard and used 18 players in the game. We still have some work to do, but we are very encouraged by what we saw today."

MNU plays in Oklahoma City on Saturday September 5th vs Oklahoma City University at 5pm. The win puts MNU at 1-0 for the season.
