Pioneers Take Conference Opener

Ben Swinger reached his career high in points in the first half, and three Pioneers scored 20 points as MNU won the HAAC opener 83-62 on Thursday. Swinger's career-high had been 14 points, and as MNU headed to the locker room at halftime, he was sitting at 17. He ended up with 21 points and a career high tying 10 rebounds.

The Pioneers jumped out to a 17-3 lead, but Avila chipped away and cut the lead to 3 at halftime. MNU came out and outscored the Eagles 18-5 in the first 8 minutes of the second half to take control of the game. The Pioneers maintained a 15-point lead for most of the half, and the lead ballooned to 26 as MNU coasted to victory.

Brenton Bell (21) and Rustin Dowd (20) joined Swinger with 20 points. And Vince Thompkins had 8 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, and 5 steals.

MNU moves to 6-4 (1-0 HAAC). The next game is Tuesday the 8th at home vs. Benedictine (7-2, 1-0) at 7:30.
