MNU hosted a tough Kansas Weslyan University squad out of Salina, Kansas on Wednesday. Both teams came out sluggish to start the game. As the half went on each team traded shots and KWU had the better opportunity with a shot hitting the cross bar. The game was a scoreless tie at the half. MNU opened the scoring in 60th minute when freshman
Savannah Lamar scored her first goal of the season. On a corner kick, she bent the ball over the goalkeepers head and found the back of the net. MNU had several other good shots but never finished anything.
KWU came on strong late, but
Becca Skillman was able to keep a clean sheet in goal. "It was a good game to win," said Coach Orton. "KWU is a solid team and is well coached, I was proud of how our team kept organized. We only allowed 30 yard shots from KWU which made it a little easier for us to keep the clean sheet." MNU won the game 1-0 and pushed their overall record to 4-4-1 for season and 1-0-0 in conference play. MNU's next game is at Culver-Stockton College at 1pm October 3rd.
