Named head coach for MNU Women’s Basketball in 2011, the 2024-2025 season marked the 14th for Jon Lewis. Lewis is the program’s winningest coach and eclipsed over 330 wins before the conclusion of the 24-25 season. Lewis is 334-107 (76%) during his time at the helm.
While at MNU, Lewis has won one national championship, while reaching six Sweet 16s and two Elite 8s. During Lewis’ 14 seasons as head coach, the Pioneers have appeared in 13 national tournaments. Lewis also has five regular-season Heart of America titles and four conference tournament championships. He has compiled a 240-54 (82%) conference record and is 166-34 (83%) all-time in Cook Center – Bell Family Arena.
In Lewis’ 14 seasons at MNU, he has coached 17 All-Americans and 37 All-Conference players including four Freshmen of the Year, two Defensive Players of the Year, three Newcomers of the Year, and one Player of the Year. A four-time conference coach of the year (2012, 2015, 2021 2025), Lewis has guided his team to 20-win seasons in 9 of 14 seasons, including four 28-win seasons and two 30-win seasons. Lewis was named National Coach of the Year in 2016.
Prior to his appointment, Lewis spent five seasons as an assistant coach at MNU for coaches Bill Olin and Karen Lange. Under their tutelage, he proved to be a dynamic recruiter and student of the game. Lewis helped lay the foundation of success as an assistant, winning the conference championship in 2007 and conference tournament championship in 2008 while also reaching the national tournament four times. Lewis coached 11 all-conference players as an assistant, including one Freshman of the Year and four Player of the Year recipients.
In addition to working with the Pioneers, Lewis has been instrumental in developing many NCAA DI, DII, and NAIA student-athletics while co-founding the KC Hoops Factory program and most recently coaching for MOKAN, an elite non-for-profit AAU program. Lewis is currently the head coach for the U17 EYBL team which finished as a top 16 team in the country on the EYBL circuit this past summer.
A native of Olathe, Kansas, Jon graduated from MNU in 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Physical Education. During his coaching tenure at MNU, he has also completed a Master's Degree in Special Education. Throughout Jon’s early coaching years he worked as a high school teacher. He taught special education, and also developed and implemented Gardner-Edgerton School District’s first ever at-risk program called New Directions.
Lewis has two children: daughter, Tegan, and daughter, Tatum.
