Women's Soccer Picks up First Win

The Women's soccer team traveled to Bethany, Oklahoma on Saturday to play Southern Nazarene University. MNU started off the game very strong with the run of possession. “We started the game perfectly," said coach Orton. "Girls we moving the ball very quickly and applied high pressure all over the field and were creating a lot of good chances on goal. Alyssa Howard took a pass from Rebecca McAndrew in the first 30 seconds and nearly scored. You know when you start like that it is going to be a good game."

The Pioneers had several good chances in the first half but were unable to finish off anything. Ten minutes into the second half, MNU had a another beautiful series of passes that led to Kate Williams hitting a shot from 35 yards out that hit the cross bar only to find Rebekah Blankenship following up the loose ball to make it 1-0 in the game. SNU came back to try and equalize and had a couple good attempts on goal, but MNU scored again with 20 minutes to go into the game. It was another good movement by the team and Emily Bean hit a shot from 30 yards to give MNU the 2-goal lead. SNU came back and scored on a nice give-and-go to get back 1 goal, but was not enough. MNU held on with a solid performance from the entire team. Orton stated, “It was a great win today. Everyone played a major role and it's really fun to watch the team play so well and have so much fun playing the game they love. I was really proud of the way the girls responded after such a tough loss last Tuesday. They are truly a championship squad.”

MNU is playing in the Baker Invitational September 10th and 11th at MNU. MNU hosts Lyon at 3:00 on Friday and Missouri Baptist at 1:00 on Saturday. The win moves MNU to 1-1 on the season.
