Former MNU midfielder Lucas Rodriguez was signed by the NSC Minnesota Stars in the USSL Div II Pro League this week. The Buenos Aires, Argentina native moved to the United States when he was 11 years old. He graduated from Shawnee Mission Northwest High School, and after attending Johnson
County Community College for 2 years, he moved on to finish his education and soccer eligibility at MNU. Lucas had a stellar career at MNU. In his senior year the team won the Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) Championship and finished the season ranked #16 in the country. He was named to the HAAC 1st Team and was named the HAAC MVP. He was also honored with a NAIA 3rd Team All-American selection in that year. Lucas graduated from MNU in 2009 with a degree in Sports Management.
"I am extremely happy for Lucas," said MNU Men's Soccer Coach Coach
Kevin Wardlaw. "He has always had the dream to play professionally and now he has been given that chance. He grew a lot as a player and a person while at MNU and it is very rewarding to see one of our own move on and have this level of success."
"Hard work, persistence, confidence, and sacrifice were important things that helped with my progression to eventually becoming a professional soccer player," said Rodriguez. "With the support of my family and experienced coaches I have had, I was able to reach my goal!"
