MNU Sweeps Player of the Week Awards

Keith Staton, Kyle Segraves, Jennifer Costa, and Taylor Ryal were honored for their performances last week. This marks the first time in school history that the baseball and softball teams have swept the award in the same week.

Baseball Pitcher of the Week: Staton, a junior from St. Petersburg, FL, had a complete-game 4-hit victory at Benedictine on Saturday. He allowed just 1 run and 1 walk while striking out 7. This is his second Pitcher of the Week award.

Baseball Player of the Week: Segraves, a sophomore from Overland Park, KS, hit .400 as the Pioneers took 3 of 4 from Benedictine. His walk-off RBI double won the first game in the series, and he was 4-4 in stolen bases (including a straight steal of home). This is his first Player of the Week award.

Softball Pitcher of the Week: Costa, a junior from Escalon, CA, picked up 3 victories and 1 save as the Pioneers went 6-0 last week. She had a 5-inning perfect game vs. Avila and followed that up with a 1-hitter vs. Missouri Valley. She closed the week with a 10-inning complete-game victory in game one vs. Graceland, and picked up the save in game two. In 23 innings, she allowed 1 run, 7 hits, and 5 walks while striking out 42. This is her third straight Pitcher of the Week Award and fourth overall. She is the defending National Pitcher of the Week as well.
