Pioneers Survive at Avila
Lukas Weigel's career-high 26 points led the way in MNU's 71-68 victory at Avila on Thursday. 61 fouls were called in the game, and Avila's 9-21 from the line in the second half was the difference in the game. Avila had a 5-point lead at halftime, and were able to extend the lead to as high as 8 with 11 minutes left in the game. But a 9-1 MNU run tied the game as Brenton Bell started to assert himself. Bell had 5 points during the run, and MNU was able to keep a slight lead for the rest of the game.

"I'm proud of these guys," said Coach Rocky Lamar. "We overcame plenty of adversity on the road and it's a testament to the character of the players."

Weigel grabbed 8 rebounds to go with his 26 points. Brenton Bell had 18 points, a career-high 10 rebounds, and 2 assists. And Rustin Dowd had 9 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 steals.

MNU is 13-8 (7-4 HAAC). The next game is Thursday the 4th at Benedictine (14-6, 7-4) at 7:30.
