Women's Soccer Wins National Academic Award

The MNU women's soccer team was recently awarded the National Soccer Coaches Association of America 2008-09 Team Academic Award for earning a combined average GPA of 3.46. A total of 582 soccer teams (146 men, 336 women) won the award by posting a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Other universities on the list: KU, Auburn and Marquette University.

MNU women's soccer coach Rocky Orton said one player, Rebecca McAndrew of Topeka, was awarded the NSCAA All-Region Academic Team as a result of her GPA and her soccer stats.
“This is tough award to win,” Orton said. “She's the second player in MNU history to win it. I'm extremely proud of our team in the classroom. It just shows when everyone has the same goal, anything is possible!” Orton's '09 team also boasts eight NAIA Academic All-Americans with only one team in the nation ahead of MNU.

Based in Kansas City, KS, the NSCAA is the largest coaches' organization in the United States.
