The MNU volleyball team got off to a rough start at the HAAC Pre-Season Tournament over the weekend, but recovered to take the final game. On Friday the Pioneers dropped three games vs. Evangel: 18-25, 14-25, and 16-25. Hours later they fell to Avila: 23-25, 22-25, and 15-25.
On Saturday, #14 Lindenwood handled the Pioneers 15-25, 13-25, 17-25. But MNU rallied from an 0-1 deficit to beat Central Methodist 23-25, 27-25, 27-25, and 25-21.
Injuries to experienced players was a factor in the disappointing start to the 09 season. "Losing middles
Heidi Morris (ankle) and
Sara Phipps (shoulder) put us in a huge hole," said head coach Rick Banis. "But the girls stepped up as best they could and I'm proud of how we battled."
MNU Volleyball kicks off the conference regular season Tuesday at 7:00 PM at home vs. Benedictine College.
